About

About the hotel

A 25-room city hotel in the valleys on the outskirts of Kandy, overlooking the Mahaweli river.

The name

Why Garnet

Garnets are mined in Sri Lanka in colours from cinnamon to deep red. We named the hotel after the stone and each room type after one of its varieties. Our logo shows a cut stone above a line of river, because that is where the hotel stands.

The infinity pool at Crown lit at night, the bar and lounge behind
The Mahaweli at dawn from a high balcony, mist in the valley and the river turning pink
Lustre set for a conference, leather chairs facing the screen and the river through the glass
Pavilion, the fine-dining room: private tables between walnut jali screens, burgundy banquettes
Table, the multi-cuisine restaurant, in morning light with the valley beyond the glass
The lobby at Garnet: walnut reception, jali screens, leather armchairs and palms through the glass

The building

Concrete, timber and brass

The building rises eight levels from the valley floor. Board-formed concrete and timber screens outside, walnut and brass inside, and a pool and bar on the roof.
